| Project: Oakland Hills Residence |
|
| Summary: |
|
|
The president of one of San Francisco's leading construction companies
decided it was time to focus on his own home for a while, a significant
change in scale from his typical commercial and institutional projects.
Phase by phase, he and his wife completely renovated their home for
their family of four. Their goals were to provide private space for
themselves, capitalize on the site's marvelous views of the Bay,
optimize natural light and re-organize their existing interior spaces
for increased functionality.

|
|
Phase I consisted of adding a floor to accommodate a new master
suite. Their retreat includes the perfect built-in day bed for
reading and working at home while enjoying the sweeping Bay views.
The main level was reconfigured to greatly improve spatial flow.
By careful manipulation of translucent panels, wall penetrations,
and room opening, daylight floods the house interior. Above the
stair, new skylights provide daylight throughout the center of
the house.

|
Phase 2 consisted of the kitchen and office area renovation.
We are currently working of Phase 3. The use of the same measured
material pallet and warm, modern aesthetic unifies all phases.
