Owner's initial request was simply to remove a wall between kitchen and
breakfast nook and rearrange the appliances. Solution included pushing
out an exterior wall five feet, demolishing an interior wall and replacing
a tight, dangerous stairway. We repositioned the windows and chose materials
for the spaces that would allow light to travel across and through the house.
A veneer plaster wall threads its way through the informal dining area, bar,
kitchen, stair landing and then down the stairway to continue the flow
throughout these rooms. In the bathroom, a large window of opaque glass
provides privacy while allowing in the maximum amount of light. The project
was featured in Sunset Magazine.
